What 3d software should you use?

What 3d software should you use?

How to choose a 3d software?

There are so many 3d software and programs in the market these days. And while this is a good thing, it can be really confusing to figure out which one to use.

There are many factors to choosing a software that fits your needs, the main one is what you are going to use it for. There are ones that are more specified in architecture visualization, product rendering, 3d illustration, or animations. There are also some specified only for rendering and not modeling.

The other factors you also want to consider are:

  • The price of the software

There are some free 3D software options out there like blender 3d and a few that cost around 700 USD a year like Cinema 4D. There are also some programs that cost around 2000 USD a year, like Autodesk 3dsmax or Autodesk Maya.

  • The ease of use.

Some software options are user-friendly and can be learned quickly and easily. And some are really complex and require special training.

  • Online community and support.

The more community that surrounds the software, the more tutorials, and resources you will be able to find. It also means that there will be more people online to answer questions and solve any problem you might have.

Now, let’s take a look at my personal favorite 3D software programs out there and compare them!

  • Autodesk 3dsmax

If you are interested in architecture visualization, interior design, game development, or product design, 3dsmax is really the place to go.

Pros:

  1. The Industry standard in architecture visualization.
  2. Strong rendering capabilities.
  3. Really good in organic or hard surface modeling.

Cons:

  1. Expensive. Cost around 1700 USD a year.
  2. Although not hard to learn, it does need some training for a while before use.
  3. While it has some animation and visual effects tools, It’s not as efficient as its competitors.

  • Cinema 4d

If you are into motion graphics, abstract art, 3d illustrations, and animation, or product design, cinema 4d is properly where you should go.

Pros:

  1. The most user-friendly.
  2. The industry standard in 3d motion graphics

Cons:

  1. A little costly. It costs around 700 USD a year.
  2. The molding tools are a little less efficient than its competitors.

  • Blender 3d

Open source, so it’s free for anyone to use. If you are still a beginner and don’t want to invest in an expensive program, Blender is the way to go. The fact that Blender is free doesn’t mean that it’s less powerful than the rest.

It can do almost everything the other software options do, from motion graphics to character animation and all forms of 3d digital art. The software also has both real-time and ray-traced render engines.

Pros:

  1. Open-source.
  2. It’s great for all sorts of animations like rigging and character animation and physical simulations.
  3. A huge supportive community and a lot of online tutorials and assets.

Cons:

  1. Haven’t been around for long, so some companies still don’t use it.
  2. It has a bit of a learning curve.

  • Lumion

Lumion is an architecture visualization software that specializes in real-time rendering. The most powerful thing about Lumion is the video presentation tools. It’s really efficient in creating high-quality architectural animations in a short time and with little effort.

Pros:

  1. Super easy to use.
  2. Fastest video renders.
  3. Comes with a large library of models and materials.

cons:

  1. Since it is a real-time render engine, it provides slightly less physically realistic results than other programs.
  2. It’s a rendering program, so you need another software to create and edit the model.

Finally, there is no best 3d software. Each one has its strengths and weaknesses. And your choice should depend on what works best for you, and what you are going to use it for.
